Chaos Chronicles Book 1: Zephyr the West Wind
Chaos Chronicles Book 1: Zephyr the West Wind by R.J. Tolson

17 years ago, in the island village of Dentro, lived a large and powerful demon. With just a howl, mountains were obliterated. With the help of an outsider, the chief of Dentro destroyed the demon and sealed its dark power into three powerful ancient weapons: a spear, shield, and a sword. After leaving the unwelcoming village, the man who helped destroy the demon took the sword in an effort to keep it away from the village. Months later, a villager bore the son of the outsider, breaking one of the sacred village laws in doing so.

Born into a village filled with people who hated him, Zephyr grew up without knowing why they did. With no friends, and eventually no family with the passing of his mother, Zephyr was forced to survive by himself as an outcast. Zephyr’s only wish being to make his mother proud and force the village to recognize him while surviving in a world filled with demons, paranormal abilities, love, hate and undiscovered lands.

Author Quiz interviews R.J. Tolson...

What is it you love most about writing?
I love how it has the power to envelop one or many into a different universe, while still allowing us to be connected to each other through it.

What came first, the idea for your first book or the decision to write a book?
Originally, I wrote Zephyr the West Wind off the starting idea, and only after finishing it did I decide to make it a “book”.

Would your book, Zephyr the West Wind, work best as a movie adaptation or as a TV series?
I would think movie format would be best, but a TV series would be fine also. Its part of a series and has a lot of story and elements compacted which works well for movies, and has many hook chapters that TV shows like to end with their episodes.

If you could invite one character from your novel to a dinner party who would it be and why?
I would invite the main character Zephyr, because his innocent, friendly and outgoing personality would make for a interesting and fun dinner.

Do you have any useful marketing tips for other authors?
I would say the best two things you could do is focus on both online and offline promotion, but make use of social networks like twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

If you worked for a publishing house, what sort of books would you be looking to publish?
I would be in the genre of Fantasy, but even more specifically I would be looking for books that have both a creative overall idea, with an inspiring story as well.

Do you have a favorite review or has anyone expressed a particularly nice compliment about your writing which stands out as your most memorable piece of praise?
I think the most memorable form of praise I have received was from a group of middle school students, who read my book during recess while avoiding bullies. They said it inspired them to be strong, trust in themselves and confront people like bullies.

Would you rather have great reviews but average sales or great sales but average reviews?
I would much rather have great reviews. I write to share the world I created with others, so that they will hopefully fall in love with it as much as I have, not for money. But, that said, great reviews means that word will eventually spread if its good enough which would bring sales anyway.

Is there a book out there which you feel is underrated and deserves a bigger audience?
There are many books I can name that are so, but one of the ones that inspired and influenced me greatly when writing my own was the Pendragon Series by D.J. Machale.

What sort of audience will your book, Zephyr the West Wind most appeal to?
So far it seems people who like Harry Potter, The Lord of The Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Spiderman, and coming of age novels have been the biggest audience so far. Zephyr combines a lot of action, a deep and rich plot, and vivid storytelling similar to the mentioned stories above, along with other elements that resonate with all ages.
